The Friends of Salina Public Library are hosting the fantastic Fall Book Sale to cap off Friends of the Library Week.

In recognition of the organization’s support for the library, the Mayor of Salina, Melissa Hodges, proclaimed October 17-23 as Friends of the Library Week in Salina. The proclamation presented at Monday’s municipal commission meeting recognized the work of Friends as the library is the cornerstone of the community by providing opportunities for all to engage in the joy of lifelong learning. life.

The organization acts as a “cheer club” for the library. Members raise funds to support summer reading programs, purchase course materials, help with special programs, and provide scholarships to teen volunteers.

Friends board chair Mary Shaffer said the book sale is one of the top two book sales of the year.

Friday, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., will be a preview for members of the Friends of Salina public library. The sale is open to the public on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. On October 24 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., the public can purchase books for $ 5 a bag.

Laura Rhodenbaugh, treasurer of the Friends of Salina Public Library board of directors, said they have a wide variety of offerings – books, audiobooks, movies, music CDs, and games – all at really great prices. advantageous.

The books the organization prepares for sale come from books removed from the library’s collection and from public donations. Donations to the organization can be made during library hours – a donation box can be found right inside the front door of the library.

The Friends of Salina Public Library will be organizing a membership drive the week before the sale. Anyone can become a member at any time, but during this special registration period, local merchants have offered coupons and small prizes to encourage membership. Annual memberships are $ 5 for students, $ 10 for individuals and $ 25 for families.
