Lorde knows a few things about royalty.
The “Royals” singer became one of the biggest names in music with her hit song about eight years ago. Now, Lorde is praising another big name in the music industry: rapper Kendrick Lamar.
Lorde wrote an update to his fanbase on Tuesday, May 24, and included some superlatives in the newsletter for the Southern California host, who released his latest album (a double album), Mr. Morale and Big Stepsearlier this month.
Wrote the pop star in a fan newsletter, “I love Kendrick. I can’t forget that modern music’s most popular and influential artist displays a functioning nervous system, admits mistakes, tries to process intergenerational trauma and prejudice Love the way the album opens, the pace and warmth of the early songs, and later ‘Count Me Out’, the construction and chords of ‘Auntie Diaries’…special .
Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers is Lamar’s fifth full-length release and it rocketed up the Billboard charts, earning the best first week of 2022 with 295,000 album equivalent units moved. It earned Lamar his third consecutive No. 1 album of his career.
For Lorde, the artist is currently in London to prepare for the European passage of his tour Solar Power Tour. The pop star wrote in her recent newsletter, “I feel really good, really open. Possibility all around. Puuuumped for Europe. I can’t believe I will see you all again, so special in your cities, each so different and offering us so much food, art, language. I will try to sightsee as much as possible.
Lorde also asked her fans to sing “as loud as [they] such as “after a recent video of her surfaced apparently shutting up onlookers at one of her concerts while performing the song ‘Writer in the Dark’.
