Idris Elba ‘shoved’ to ride on JAY-Z’s American Gangster album – Up News Info

Idris Elba wrote a poem to be featured on JAY-Z’s 2007 album American Gangster.

The Suicide Squad star appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to talk about his new movie Beast when he recalled the recording process.

He also spoke about securing his spot on Paul McCartney’s 2021 album McCartney III Imagined.

“I’m on those two albums, and those two artists don’t know I’m on those albums,” the musician and actor revealed. “You know what I mean? I literally rocked my own on those albums.

Idris explained that he starred in the movie American Gangster, which JAY-Z drew inspiration from for his record.

“The moment I heard that Jay was about to do an album associated with the movie. And I was like, ‘I have to get on it.’ Like you do,” the England star said. “You’re like, ‘I’m Idris, I need to be on this JAY-Z album.’ I don’t know why Jay would be like, ‘Yeah sure, do it.'”

After meeting someone who worked with the rapper, Idris wrote a “long poem” which he set to the beat.

“Actually, it was a rap, but it didn’t sound good as a rap,” he corrected himself. “So I said, ‘Maybe I should speak like that’ because Jay might be a little more accommodating with my voice. And I sent it to him and we got this text from Jay saying, ‘Uh, I don’t like it… I love it.’ »

For McCartney’s 2021 album, Idris remixed the artist’s Long Tailed Winter Bird for release on the physical disc version.
