MassOpera partners with Bard College’s Longy School of Music
MassOpera and Bard College’s Longy School of Music have partnered to create an opera company in residence and support the artistic growth of outstanding young performers and graduates.
As part of this new partnership, MassOpera will work with 12 graduate students from Longy. There will be individual sessions and coaching as well as the guarantee of a casting position in a MassOpera production. The company will also host a series of workshops for the entire voice department.
“Mass Opera celebrates opera as a dynamic, living art form that seeks to disrupt the conventions and closed ecosystems that keep the world of opera exclusive and nostalgic rather than looking to the future. We are delighted that our students benefit from the practical experience of working with an opera company in residence,” said Judith Bose, Dean of the Longy School of Music, in an official press release.
“In this partnership, Mass Opera benefits from the institutional support of a larger organization with the Ecole de Musique de Longy, including access to rehearsal and performance spaces. Additionally, Longy’s new association kicks off this week with the rehearsal and development recording of our Women’s Caravan New Opera Workshop, a romantic comedy about Colombian immigrants living in Spain,” added Will Neely, Executive Director of MassOpera.
