“RENT” 25th Anniversary Farewell Tour Coming to Philadelphia in March

Since “RENT” opened on Broadway in 1996, fans have flocked to the show seemingly non-stop.

Well, the end may be drawing near as the “RENT 25th Anniversary Farewell Tour” takes over the Merriam Theater at the Kimmel Cultural Campus from March 4-6. Former Kimmel Education student and Philadelphia native Shafiq Hicks, a graduate of Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts and voice specialist at Temple University, will play the role of “Tom Collins.”

For a quarter of a century, Jonathan Larson’s “RENT” has inspired us to choose love over fear and live with no regrets. This Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning show follows a year in the life of a diverse group of artists and friends who struggle to achieve their dreams without selling out.

‘RENT’ tours have criss-crossed the country almost continuously since 1996, with the last tour alone playing in 5 countries, 237 cities and 1,005 performances. “RENT” won the Tony Award for Best Musical in 1996 as well as the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
